I would also like to state that we had spent many hours finding and reading reviews for the hotels in Luang Prabang, Laos. There are SO MANY guesthouses/hotels around!
Our main criteria are
(one.) within 10 minutes walk to the main market street.
(two.) NOT located at the main market street.
(three.) reasonable price.
(four.) friendly hosts and can understand English.
(five.) clean rooms with hot water shower and air-conditioned.
Namkhan Riverside had met most of our criteria except for the hot water shower. Since the first night, we had noted that the hot water shower was either too hot, not hot enough or too cold. Since everyone have different tolerance level, we didn't think much of it until the second night where the hot water just cease to exist. We informed the hosts and after checking, they decided to unlock an empty room for us to use the shower. This went on until our third and last day of stay.
Not all bathroom amenities are provided and once you shower, the entire bathroom gets wet.
We had booked two rooms. Fruits platters were complimentary upon arrival. One of the rooms is a double bed room located at street level. In the morning, we can hear the chatter of the people outside.
The second room is a family room located at the lower level.
Breakfast was a list of items where you ordered and the kitchen will then prepare it and the area overlooks the Namkhan River. Mosquitoes will also join you for the breakfast.
Namkhan Riverside lacked in some aspects but I think it is value for money (not sure if it is appropriate to disclose the price we paid as I saw people stating the price they paid and it was a lot higher). Furthermore, bottled water was provided for free. The hosts are really friendly too!
Extra tip: The stairs to Phousi Hill (great place for sunset) is just 2 minutes away BUT this route is much more horrendous to walk as compared to the stairs from the market street.
