Backstage Cafe

Backstage Cafe is a warehouse kind of location converted to become a roomy, tasteful and comfortable place to chill and hang out, providing great coffee, desserts and mains. Plus they have generous opening hours, Mondays - Saturdays 10am - 9pm. Closed on Sundays.

Now, this place warrants a post here because, the coffee is good, desserts are good and mains are delicious. Triple thumbs up. Have some photos.

Cafe Latte: Smooth bold chocolaty profile $4.50
Red Velvet cake: Not too sweet yet strong and flavorful. Sponge is a little dense, however, I'll overlook that on account its not too sweet. $6.50

Egg Omelette: Eggs were too watery. Taste wise, like any other omelette out there. Nothing outstanding. Cel's complain is that there was too much onions (the one who does not eat her greens), for me, it was perfect, $14.

Duck Confit: Duck skin was crispy and meat was soft and moist. The duck, tastes like duck. Now I'm not trying to be funny. This statement merely means that the duck is good duck meat. Not one of those where the meat does not taste like anything. The red wine sauce was delicious. $18. Comes as a set which includes a daily soup of the day (campbell) and a scoop of ice cream.

Pot of tea: Earl Grey. $6. Perfumed fragrance (no not artificial.) Not bad. Compared to TWG, lacks fancy detail in terms of tableware but taste profile wise, on par.

Truffle Fries: The first thing that hits us when the bowl was presented to us was the strong pungent smells of truffle. *instant Pavlov moment*. Upon digging in, was a little disappointed as the pungentness did not transfer into the olfactory senses from the gustatory senses (when chewed does not continue to deliver the pungent fragrance of truffle). Personally I would've preferred if they used shoestring fries instead. More crispy bits. $6

Waffles with maple syrup and vanilla ice cream: Thumbs up for this waffle. The batter is perfectly balanced and quite honestly, satisfies even the hardest to please (me, who does not like waffles or cakes or sweets of most kind). Perfect harmony with the maple syrup and the crisp yet fluffiness of the waffle made this really outstanding. Waffle lovers, MUST TRY. A little pricey though. $10.50

Other recommendations: Crab meat pasta $16. Garlic and pesto lovers, HEADS UP. MUST TRY.

The icing that ends this post: No GST and No Service charges and FREE parking.
