O’sulloc Museum and Innisfree Jeju House > Cheonjeyeon Falls > Mysterious Road > Black Pork BBQ Street
We took a cab to Gimpo airport to catch the first flight to Jeju! We overestimated the travelling time and had to sit around the airport and wait for the counter to start their operations. We reserved our car with Sixt in Jeju, the only car rental company that allows same day return.
Oh by the way, do remember that Singapore licence require the international driving licence to drive in South Korea.
You can key in the phone numbers of the attractions to the onboard GPS. There is no need to enter the address in Korean. So with the kiasu-ness in me, I prepared a list of phone numbers but it turns out unnecessary because the onboard GPS had all the addresses of the attractions we wanted to go in it.
Driving in Jeju city was pretty nerve-wrecking because first of all, left hand drive and the drivers there are, with no better words from me, quite asshole. There was no graciousness and they horn you off if you are in their way. We kept telling ourselves "They won't see us again, so just let them scold." Haha. But once on the freeway, it was quite easy to drive because there wasn't much cars around.
First stop was O’sulloc Museum and Innisfree Jeju House which is 50mins drive away. Please give this place a miss, there are much better things in Jeju to go for. There is a cafe at O'sulloc that sells some cakes and drinks which you can get from the O'sulloc in Seoul and there is nothing fantastic about the museum. The shop in Innisfree sells a fraction of the things you can get from Seoul and the cafe sells some pretty but meh food. Unless, seeing tea plantation is your kind of thing.
Second stop was Cheonjeyeon Falls. There are a few waterfalls so take your time to walk, wind down and take photos. Ain't anything much for me to say about this place. So, pardon me. And we got amused by the English in the warning signboard.
There were a few eateries right opposite the carpark of Cheonjeyeon Falls. We drove around and went to the one that was elevated (sorry I don't remember the name of the place and have no better description). We were pleasantly surprised by the seaweed sea urchin soup with abalone and the seafood soup. Both very fresh and welcoming
The highlight of our short Jeju trip was the Mysterious Road. Ok, don't get me wrong. There was nothing fantastic about the road, just amusing to see cars queuing up, then stop in the middle of the road, and you can barely see it moving backwards. We did pour water onto the road, but we didn't see the water flowing up either.
Well, I digress. The road to the Mysterious Road was so beautifully covered in snow and we really enjoyed taking our time driving and stopping to take tons of photos and videos.
We ended our trip with a black pork BBQ at Hwaro Hyang along the Black Pork BBQ Street. The street was really tight with parking was limited. They only allow you to park in front of the place you are dining at. While we struggle to park outside Hwaro Hyang, an ahjusshi came out and told us to pass him our car key and voila, valet parking.
And this sum up our short Jeju trip! Will definitely return for a much longer one!
